Tune in to Hannah’s Bookshelf today from 2pm with guest Heather Burnside

Join me on Saturday at 2pm on North Manchester FM for more News, Reviews and Short Interviews on Hannah’s Bookshelf. Here’s what’s coming up on this week’s show…

A review of a new short story collection by Sarah Schofield I’ll be talking about Safely Gathered In by Sarah Schofield, which is out now from Comma Press.

An interview with Sarra Culleno I first interviewed Sarra Culleno in November 2019. Sarra is a British BAME poet, mother, English teacher, and author of Bonds: A Short Story Collection published by CAAB. Sarra is widely published. She has written fiction and poetry for publication, performance, print, audiodramas, podcasts and radio. In case you’re curious, Sarra’s Apocalypse Books selections were One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, Señor Vivo and the Coca Lord by Louis de Bernières, and Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer.

An interview with Heather Burnside I first interviewed Heather Burnside back in October 2015. Heather grew up in Gorton then moved to one of the toughest estates in Manchester, where she spent her teenage years. She draws heavily on this background as the setting for many of her novels. To date she has had ten novels published in the gritty crime genre and is currently working on her twelfth. And in case you’re interested, Heather’s Apocalypse Books selections were Guests of the Emperor by Janice Young Brooks, Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, and the Complete Works of William Shakespeare.

And What Are You Reading?… the section of the show where I ask writers about the books they’re reading at the moment. This week I’ve got another selection of reviews and recommendations. And if you’re a writer who’d like to take part, check out this post with details of how to join in!

Plus… you can hear my round-up of news from the World of Words. If you’ve got a news story you’d like to share, please use the News Form to submit it to the show. For review requests, please get in touch via the Contact Form.

Catch the show on Saturday at 2pm on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).
