This week it’s a Pick and Mix episode of Hannah’s Bookshelf. Here’s what’s coming up on this week’s show…
An interview with David Hartley… I first interviewed David back in June 2016. David writes strange stories about strange things for strange people. He is the author of Fauna (Fly on the Wall Press), which was longlisted for the Edge Hill Prize. In 2021 he gained a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester, and he has recently been writer-in-residence in Tartu, Estonia for their Capital of Culture celebrations. His upcoming project, The Embassy of Utopia, is coming to this year’s Festival of Libraries and will take place over the 14th and 15th June at Manchester Central Library. In case you’re curious, David’s Apocalypse Books selections were The Works of Thomas Paine, Elidor by Alan Garner, and City of Saints and Madmen by Jeff Vandermeer.
A review of a new poetry collection by M.B.C.… I’ll be reviewing Unsent Letters by M.B.C. (out now from Olympia Publishers)
A review of a new book from Carcanet… I’ll be reviewing The Devil Prefers Mozart: On Music and Musicians, 1962-1993 by Anthony Burgess (edited by Paul Phillips)
Library Haul!… I’ll be talking about the books I’ve checked out this month from Central Library.
And What Are You Reading?… the section of the show where I ask writers about the books they’re reading at the moment. This week I’ve got another selection of reviews and recommendations. And if you’re a writer who’d like to take part, check out this post with details of how to join in!
Plus… you can hear my round-up of news from the World of Words. If you’ve got a news story you’d like to share, please use the News Form to submit it to the show.
Catch the show on Saturday at 2pm on 106.6FM (if you’re in the North Manchester area) or listen online (if you’re further afield).
