Public Statement: Closure of North Manchester FM 106.6

It is with great sadness that we announce that North Manchester FM 106.6 will cease broadcasting at 11:59pm on Monday 14 September 2026.

This decision has not been taken lightly. Despite the commitment and efforts of everyone involved, the organisation has been unable to secure the core funding needed to sustain its operations into the future.

The Directors have a responsibility to ensure that the organisation is managed with good governance and to act in the best interests of North Manchester FM CIC. After careful consideration, the Directors believe that closing the organisation in an orderly and responsible way is the appropriate course of action.

Over the years, North Manchester FM 106.6 has been supported and shaped by an incredible community of volunteers, staff, presenters, partners and supporters. We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to every person who has contributed their time, skills, energy and passion to the station. Your commitment has helped North Manchester FM 106.6 provide a platform for local voices, community stories and diverse talent.

We are particularly grateful to the many volunteers and freelance staff who have played such an important role in the station’s development and success over the years. The skills, knowledge and experience built within our community are a valuable legacy.

While the station itself is ceasing to broadcast, the Directors are actively exploring opportunities to retain and build upon the skills, knowledge and experience of our volunteers. We hope to identify ways in which this valuable expertise can continue to benefit local people and future community initiatives.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported North Manchester FM throughout its journey. We are proud of what has been achieved and of the many people who have been part of our broadcast community.
