On Saturday 1st September the people of Manchester come together to celebrate this great city. Mancunian’s will gather in Platt Fields Park from 12 noon till 10pm to enjoy live entertainment, food and a party atmosphere.
There will be lots of fun activities for families to get stuck in to as they travel around the park. The park will be filled with a range of diverse entertainment, the area’s are as follows; the Festival Stage, Dance and Music Area, Performance Workshop Area, Sports Zone, Lakeside, Street Talks and Arts and Crafts.
Some of the highlights of the festival include the Jet Black Dance as the crowd is treated to a carnival celebration of African Caribbean dance at 12:45pm at the Dance & Music Area. You can get up close to watch the Great Britain BMX Cycling Team in action from 2pm at the BMX track. Then at 3pm you can join in on the debate as the Festival of Manchester asks if 16 year olds should have the right to vote in the Street Talk Marquee. Later on in the evening Manchester ska will bring the noise as they light up the Festival Stage at 7:35pm.
All this builds up to the magic of the Swansong , as the audience watch the moment the glowing swan and peacock unite on the lake in a fiery show.
