Hailing originally from Campbeltown, Diarmid has, for the past twenty years, lived just outside the West Renfrewshire village of Lochwinnoch, where he and his family row on Castle Semple loch (weather permitting, of course). Optician by day, he has played guitar and keyboards in a variety of bands, although stardom has, alas, remained elusive! However, for much of his adult life he has dabbled in writing. Diarmid’s first novel was started in 2016 and self-published in 2017. Archie Bluesky told the unusual tale of Archie Blue, a troubled (aren’t they all…) West of Scotland Detective Inspector who, in the course of his duty, becomes embroiled in a somewhat ‘love/hate’ relationship with alien Kharalaya 7 Calfarr as they search for a deadly weapon, deposited on Earth many years previously. The sequel, Keeper of Souls, was released in 2018 and the third, The Man from Hoomp, was well underway when he was approached by his publisher, Lesley Affrossman at Sparsile Books, to become their crime author.
Drown for your Sins, the first in the DCI Grant McVicar crime series, was launched in Waterstones Byres Road, in October 2019. The second in the series, Dress for Death, was due for release in 2020 but, for rather obvious reasons, this was postponed. It is now due for release in April 2021. Diarmid has finished the third in the DCI McVicar series, Link to a Kill, and is currently working on a different project.
“I’ll be talking to Diarmid about his novels, the DCI McVicar series, and about crime writing in general. And, of course, he’ll be sharing his selections for this week’s Apocalypse Books” adds Hannah.
