George was born in May 1949 within the industrial heartland of Ardwick, East Manchester. He has continued to reside within three miles of his birthplace. After retiring in 2015 after numerous different types of employment and meeting many inspiring people along the way, he decided to investigate his antecedents, a journey which explained his deep feelings to where he was born, and which inspired him to memorialise the unique and amazing familial secrets he learnt during his formative years.

George has been married to Vivien, his childhood sweetheart, for 54 years, and they have two children and three grandchildren. His amusing anecdotal reminiscences for family and friends led to their urging him to write some down for posterity which led to his taking up writing. His first book, Small Victories and Inner Smiles, takes us from birth to retirement. George followed this up with three more books, Jump the Red River, A Hole in the Fence and, most recently, Justice for the Yearling. The last two are fictional stories set in his home city.

I’ll be talking to George about his memoirs and fiction writing. And, of course, he’ll be sharing his selections for this week’s Apocalypse Books.
